Chapter by Dr. Owens featured in book on civil-military relations

Warriors and Citizens: American Views of Our MilitaryIWP’s Dean Dr. Mackubin Thomas Owens has written a chapter in a forthcoming book on civil-military relations, Warriors and Citizens: American Views of Our Military, which is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2016.

The book explores whether a gap has developed between the United States’ military personnel and its civilians, given the two groups’ seemingly opposite life experiences. The authors also examine whether any of these gaps are problematic for sustaining the relationship between the American military and the American public.

Dr. Owens is a Marine Corps veteran, serving as an infantry platoon and company commander in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He was wounded twice and awarded the Silver Star medal.  He retired as a Colonel in 1994. He earned his Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Dallas, a Master of Arts in Economics from Oklahoma University, and his BA from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Dr. Owens is also the author of a number of other books, and teaches Military Strategy: Theory and Practice at IWP.
