On November 4, 2016, The Institute of World Politics Cyber Intelligence Initiative hosted a breakfast event featuring Angela M. Messer, Executive Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton. This event was sponsored by IWP’s Cyber Intelligence Initiative (CII) as part of a series of guest lectures titled “New Initiatives in Cyber” and was very well received by an audience comprised of IWP students, alumni, faculty and executives, as well as professionals from Industry and the US Government.
Ms. Messer’s topic — “Innovation in Cyber – Why it is Essential” — was a very relevant and engaging presentation focusing on how innovation can open the door to both opportunity and vulnerability. Ms. Messer discussed how leaders today need to be prepared to use more innovative approaches in cybersecurity as they seek to embrace opportunity, while minimizing their vulnerability to devastating and sophisticated cyber attacks.
Ms. Messer leads Booz Allen Hamilton’s Cybersecurity business responsible for delivering next generation cyber innovations and solutions to commercial, government and international clients.
IWP President John Lenczowski commented; “Angie Messer brings a rare integrated strategic approach to cyber security that includes sound intelligence analysis, integration of security in the design stage of new technologies, a counterintelligence focus on both insider and outsider threats, the fusion of both technology and security concepts, and collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, and academia.”
Angie Messer said of the event: “The topic of innovation in cyber is critically important today as we tackle a rapidly evolving technology landscape. The enthusiasm of event attendees is a heartening sign as it will take broad engagement to foster a culture of cyber-focused innovation. We must empower people to help proactively drive new ways of thinking into cybersecurity at all levels, adapting and experimenting with new techniques and technologies.”
