Dr. Owens discusses civil-military relations on Capitol Hill

On February 9th, 2017, IWP Dean Dr. Mackubin Owens was the featured speaker at a lunch briefing on the topic of “Repairing America’s Civil-Military Relations.” The event was sponsored by the Foreign Policy Initiative’s Center for Military and Diplomatic History and took place in Rayburn House Office Building.

Dr. Owens explained the Obama administration’s role in obstructing civil-military relations by streamlining decision-making in the White House, disregarding military advice, and dismissing independent-minded generals. Dr. Owens also offered recommendations to the new administration for restoring the relationship between civil and military authorities.
