On May 3, IWP Academic Dean Dr. Mackubin Owens gave a lecture on the subject of “Civil-Military Relations in the Trump Era” at the University of Texas at Austin Clements Center for National Security.
Dr. Owens drew from an extensive background when analyzing the topic. His time in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War informed him of the military’s perspective, while his Ph.D. in Politics provided him with the government’s view. He offered his unique perspective to the audience, interspersed with personal anecdotes.
On the subject of civil-military relations in the United States today, Dr. Owens remarked that “Civil-military relations are not easy any time, and they can be exacerbated by individual personalities.”
