The Institute of World Politics is pleased to announce that Dr. Zak Allal, a 2018 IWP graduate, will become a Non-Resident Scholar at the Institute. He graduated from IWP this May with a Professional Master’s degree in Strategic and International Studies and plans to focus his scholarly research on technological progress, including how emerging technology impacts global strategy.
Dr. Allal, who was an IWP Presidential Scholarship recipient, holds a medical doctor degree from the University of Oran in Algeria, a certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an executive Master’s degree in Management and Strategic Economic Intelligence from the School of Economic Warfare in Paris. He has an extensive background in medicine, and has been a successful entrepreneur and research scholar.
Though he has worked for the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and UNESCO, one of Dr. Allal’s greatest accomplishments has been founding and managing the Organ Preservation Alliance (OPA).
Dr. Allal founded OPA in order to ensure technological progress in organ transplantation and later collaborated with many organizations, including the Department of Defense and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Through OPA, Dr. Allal has been able to reduce the organ waiting list while working with the Obama Administration.
Additionally, Dr. Allal has had experience as a teaching fellow at Singularity University, a Silicon Valley think tank, and was later its ambassador to France to advocate for technological progress and humanism.
A firm believer in the ability of technology and statecraft to improve lives, Dr. Allal’s research and entrepreneurial work currently focus on healthcare, education, and culture through international development work.
