The Institute of World Politics is pleased to welcome Steven Sterns, Director of Information Security – Threat Management and Response for eBay, to the Advisory Board of its Cyber Intelligence Initiative.
Mr. Sterns is an accomplished Information Security & IT executive with extensive leadership success guiding Security and IT operations and applications teams across the US, EMEA and Asia in publicly-traded, Fortune-rated, SOX-audited companies.
In his current role at EBay Inc., Steven is responsible for their threat management and response practice including global security incident response, threat intelligence, security tools engineering, and security operations automation. He leads a team of 25 engineers and is accountable for a $5 million operational expense budget.
Steven brings over 15 years of experience in building and deploying teams that result in holistic cyber security solutions that comprehensively address people, process, and technology to achieve the highest level of security possible.
Prior to joining EBay, Steven led the customer facing Software as a Service (SaaS) operations and delivery for one of the largest online mortgage loan origination software companies in the US., EllieMae Financial. He also worked for Cisco implementing PCI compliant security for their Webex business.
Steven’s academic qualifications include an MBA and undergraduate degrees in English and Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is also qualified as a Project Management Professional and a Certified Systems Engineer.
Steven believes that bringing historical and cultural context to technical education – a focus of the IWP Cyber Intelligence Initiative – is critical to building a new generation of security leaders.
