On Saturday, June 15, 2019, Dean Frank Marlo and SVP Chris Glass, Sr. presented the Kimmy Duong Foundation 2019-20 Institute of World Politics Executive Master of Arts Scholarship to Mr. Cong Nguyen. Mr. Nguyen received this year’s scholarship for his outstanding humanitarian support to the Vietnamese and American communities in the National Capital Region. Also in attendance representing IWP were Trustee General Jack Nicholson and his wife Sophie. The presentation was made during the 2019-2020 Kimmy Duong Foundation annual Scholarship Award Ceremony in Reston, Virginia.

The foundation believes that education brings many benefits, including raising incomes, improving health, and fostering peace. The Kimmy Duong Foundation has supported multiple education programs to promote these benefits. Throughout most of her life, Mrs. Duong has generously donated to charitable causes such as the Vietnamese Association for the Handicapped; scholarships for high school students in Nha Trang; housing for the poor in Hue, My Tho, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet; cataract surgery for the poor in Can Tho; and medical care for the poor in Hue and Nha Trang. She welcomes all those who share her passion for helping others to contribute to the Foundation.

“By granting me this scholarship,” Cong said during his acceptance comments, “IWP and The Kimmy Duong foundation not only supports my endeavor to effectively serve and fulfill my humble duty to our nation, but you also plant the good seeds to cultivate the powerful inspiration to our young and outstanding Vietnamese American generation represented by 17 college level scholarship recipients today. They will grow to be the good citizens with knowledge, skills and talents, not only to achieve their personal American dream, but also to serve and contribute, on the national level, in the global extent, to the peace, freedom and betterment of our countries and to the world communities… Once again, thank you!”

The scholarship represents the burgeoning professional relationship partnerships between IWP and institutions of higher learning focused on academic excellence and community service non-profit organizations.
