Retired CIA intelligence officer donates books to IWP Library

On September 27th, 2019, The Institute of World Politics Library received approximately 100 books from Dr. Nicholas Dujmovic. Dr. Dujmovic is the director of Catholic University’s program in intelligence studies. He retired from the CIA as an intelligence officer after working there for 26 years. He is a deacon of an Orthodox Church in Falls Church, Virginia.

While working at the CIA, Dr. Dujmovic was able to preserve, and subsequently donate to The Institute of World Politics Library, the 51-volume Great Soviet Encyclopedia, which was a part of the CIA headquarters’ library.  The Great Soviet Encyclopedia is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published by the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. It was designed to promote the Communist ideology and Soviet patriotism in Soviet children, among other things.

Dr. Dujmovic commented that: “I truly wanted to find a suitable home for this historical collection, and the IWP Library will be an ideal location to preserve and display this extensive and unique resource.”

The Institute of World Politics would like to thank Dr. Dujmovic for his extraordinary gift to the IWP Library.
