IWP is pleased to announce a new scholarship program, the Great Statesman Scholarship. This program, conceived of by IWP Trustee and alumnus Michael C. Maibach, allows donors to name a scholarship for the statesman of their choice in consultation with IWP leadership. These scholarships are meant to attract and retain outstanding full-time IWP students.
Scholarship Patrons commit to giving $10,000 per year for five years to their named scholarships. Great Statesman Scholarships are meant to attract and retain the highest quality, full-time IWP students.
Mr. Maibach has committed to funding the first Great Statesman Scholarship, which will be named for President Dwight Eisenhower. He served as Supreme Commander of the victorious Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe during WWII, which included the success of the Normandy Invasion. As President, he organized an armistice in Korea and dealt effectively with the early challenges of the Cold War. Mr. Maibach commented that “President Eisenhower was a superb leader in both war and peace. His role in WWII is well known. Not as well known is that in 1951 he became the first Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, prior to being elected our 34th U.S. President.”

IWP is grateful to John and Cynthia Lovewell and General Raymond Odierno (USA, Ret.) for also offering to establish Great Statesman Scholarships.
Mr. Lovewell is currently the Chairman of the IWP Board of Trustees and has served on the Board for 14 years, overseeing our positive growth.
The Scholarship gifted by him and Cynthia Lovewell will be named for Commodore John Barry, a relative of Mrs. Lovewell’s who is known as “The Father of the American Navy.” In October 2019, IWP’s front classroom was also named in honor of Commodore John Barry at a special ceremony during the annual Chancellor’s Council meeting.

General Odierno is the 38th Chief of Staff of the United States Army and served with the Army for 39 years. Additionally, General Odierno’s awards and decorations include four Defense Distinguished Service Medals, two Army Distinguished Service Medals, and many more.
The IWP Great Statesman Scholarship he is establishing will be in honor of General Robert William Cone, a four-star general in the U.S. Army. General Cone served as the commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. Previously, he served as the commander of Fort Hood and III Corps, and as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations, United States Forces – Iraq.

IWP is actively seeking new Great Stateman Patrons. America needs future leaders to match the contributions made by those now named to this prestigious new program. IWP educates students for leading roles in the highest levels of our government’s national security and international affairs apparatus, including the FBI, CIA, DNI, the Department of Defense, and the State Department, as well as in the private sector.
