IWP Trustee Jacqueline Wieland and her husband Bruce have made a five-year commitment to support IWP students through the Great Statesman Scholarship program. The new scholarship that they created will be named in honor of IWP’s Founder and President, Dr. John Lenczowski.
Mr. and Mrs. Wieland became supporters of IWP after being introduced to Dr. Lenczowski by Amb. Aldona Wos and Louis DeJoy in 2009. Ms. Wieland recalled: “We were not familiar with The Institute of World Politics and were delighted to learn that there was actually a graduate school in existence that promoted the core values of our country and at the same time was teaching students ALL the arts of statecraft within the fields of diplomacy, national security, intelligence and counterintelligence, and military strategy, just to name a few.”
Of the scholarship, she commented: “Our naming of a new Great Statesman Scholarship was a quick and easy decision. The genius and consummate diplomat behind IWP is the founder – Dr. John Lenczowski. His personal story and service to this country will be chronicled in our history books. He embodies what is good and right about America. One of our friends likes to call him the ‘Humble Warrior,’ which is quite apropos, considering the fact he understands, embraces, and ultimately shares his wisdom about the challenges our country faces from our enemies. Dr. Lenczowski’s vision for the school has provided true moral leadership training for all the students, regardless of their area of concentration.”
This scholarship is the fourth Great Statesman Scholarship: others have been established in honor of President Dwight Eisenhower, Commodore John Barry, and General Robert William Cone. This new $10,000/year scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student annually, with a $5,000 disbursement to the student each semester.
