Amb. Dina Kawar speaks at IWP

On the evening of Tuesday, June 11th, the IWP community, along with faculty, staff, students, alumni, families, and friends gathered to welcome Her Excellency Ambassador Dina Kawar of Jordan.

The event was moderated by Ambassador Louise Oliver, a Distinguished Research Professor at IWP, and a Director of the Council of American Ambassadors. Ambassador Oliver served as the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from 2004 to 2009. Additionally, as the first American Ambassador to UNESCO in twenty years, Ambassador Oliver led the U.S. re-engagement with the Paris-based organization.

Amb. Kawar led this panel discussion, covering a variety of topics, including the complexities of current events in the Middle East.

The Ambassador’s awards include the Medal of Independence of the first degree by His Majesty King Abdulla II of Jordan. She holds a number of decorations, including the “Commandeur De La Legion d’ Honneur” from France, the “Medalha de D. Afonso Henriques” from Portugal and the “Insignes de Dame de Grand-Croix de l’Ordre de Saint Grégoire le Grand” from the Holy See.

Following the discussion, guests were treated to a dessert reception and given the opportunity to exchange a conversation with Amb. Kawar and other attendees.
