Meet some of the outstanding IWP students who have received IWP’s prestigious Great Statesman Scholarships!
The Great Statesman Scholarship program allows donors to name a scholarship for the statesman of their choice in consultation with IWP leadership, all while giving outstanding students the ability to complete their studies at the Institute.

Alexandra Krulewitch
Recipient of the Commodore John Barry Scholarship, established by John and Cynthia Lovewell
“I am so thankful to the Lovewells for their generosity and investment in my education and professional career. IWP’s donors, faculty and staff have been a guiding force throughout my degree and beyond. I am eternally grateful for the support in and outside of the classroom.”
Alexandra Krulewitch graduated from IWP with a Master’s in Strategic Intelligence Studies in December 2023. During her time at IWP, she served on the Student Government Association and as the Vice President of the Alpha chapter of IAFIE. She made the most of the study abroad options including the Hermes Program in Greece and a directed study on the Psychology of violent actors at Oxford with Professor Tsagronis. Additionally, Alex represented IWP at the Intelligence Studies Consortium, war games in the DMV area, and through a paper written for Professor Sano that was published in AFIO’s Intelligencer. Some highlights of her time at IWP include the capstone simulation with Professor Quattrocki and Dean Robbins, and the class visit to Professor Thomas’s cabin. Having graduated, Alex is continuing her research and plans to use her skills honed at IWP in the field of national security.

Jaad
Recipient of the Commodore John Barry Scholarship, established by John and Cynthia Lovewell
“John and Cynthia Lovewell’s kindness and generosity has directly advanced my educational goals to develop the necessary skills to make an impact in public service and national security. Born and raised in Allentown, PA, Jaad is a student in the first year of his MA program in Statecraft and National Security Affairs. His academic and professional experiences include graduating from The George Washington University in 2023, conducting artificial intelligence (AI) research for the US Army War College, and exploring more about US relations abroad during his time supporting a committee at the US Senate. Currently, Jaad works as a Business Analyst for a local defense contractor, supporting a company-wide AI initiative and mission-critical national security and technology challenges. Outside of work, Jaad is a volunteer fireman. At IWP, he also serves as a President’s Student Ambassador and supports programming for current and prospective students and donors. Jaad remains driven by a purpose to serve and create opportunities for generations to come.

“I am incredibly grateful to the Lovewells for their generosity in funding the Commodore John Barry Scholarship, and through it, my education. Their contributions have made a significant impact on my life, by facilitating my ability to attend IWP, and to reach my dreams of getting a career in the national security field.”
A native of Utah Valley, Mason Stauffer is looking forward to his upcoming graduation, and to applying the knowledge he gained at IWP to the national security sector. When he isn’t studying, he can usually be found reading, hiking through the woods, or playing his trumpet.

Jelvin Thomas is a second-year candidate for the Masters in Statecraft and National Security Affairs program at The Institute of World Politics. “I would like to send my gratitude and blessings to Mr. Philip and Mrs. Susanna Rice for their generosity. I could not have made a better choice in graduate program, and I am thankful to the Rices and all who contribute to IWP students dedicated to solving critical issues of our time.”
Laren came to IWP with a B.A. in Intelligence Studies and double minors in French and Anti-Money Laundering from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. She has always had an interest in public service, foreign affairs, and policy. At IWP, Laren is pursuing a Master of Arts in Statecraft and National Security specializing in Defense. She has focused on China as a US adversary and hopes to help strengthen the US against Chinese threats. Perhaps more importantly, IWP has taught her to knowledgeably defend America’s standing in the world as a beacon of freedom and hope against oppression; Laren will continue to promote this message wherever she ends up.
