IWP is pleased to announce the promotion of Ariane Sweeney to the position of Executive Vice President. In this role, she will provide strategic leadership and oversee all administrative operations of the institution, supporting IWP’s mission and long-term growth.

“Ariane has been an extraordinary leader at IWP for the past four years,” said IWP President Captain Chris Glass. “Her proven leadership, institutional knowledge, and commitment to excellence will be instrumental as the school continues to advance its mission and strengthen its future.”

In her previous role as IWP’s Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Ms. Sweeney oversaw IWP’s fundraising activities, growing IWP’s donor base and charitable fundraising budget, increasing commitments to the John Jay Legacy Society, and securing gifts that led to the establishment of IWP’s first-ever general endowment.

Prior to joining IWP, Ms. Sweeney worked for many years at Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), most recently as Vice President, Membership & Development.  During her tenure, CAGW’s membership doubled to more than 1 million; contributions from corporations and foundations increased five-fold in three years; and the planned giving program she established yielded the organization’s single largest gift.

Prior to joining CAGW, Ms. Sweeney worked in the securities industry in Taipei, Taiwan.  She began her career at van Kloberg & Associates, an international consulting firm in Washington, D.C., where she coordinated the first-ever joint lobbying campaign by the countries of Central America, aimed at bringing an end to the war in El Salvador.

Ms. Sweeney’s volunteer service includes five terms as President of the D.C. Department of the American Legion Auxiliary, one of the nation’s most prominent veterans service organizations.

Ms. Sweeney holds a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where she graduated with honors in International Business and received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence.  She received her B.A., Cum Laude, from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
