On February 18, 2026, the IWP community gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the Sven Kraemer Cold War Library. In attendance at the event were Prof. Fritz Kraemer, his wife Carla, and his son Andreas.

This collection includes books from the collections of both former IWP professor Sven Kraemer and his father, Dr. Fritz Kraemer.

Prof. Sven Kraemer is a national security expert who has served under eight U.S. Presidents and has held senior positions in the U.S. Government, Congress, and Washington policy institutes. He spent over 15 years serving on the National Security Council with four Presidents and ten National Security Advisors.

At IWP, he taught a course on U.S. National Security Strategy, Emerging Threats, and Arms Control for over a decade. His teaching was influential for our students, who applied lessons learned from in classes to their national security careers.

Dr. Fritz Kraemer was an American educator and a Senior Civilian Advisor to the Army Chief of Staff. He is credited with discovering Henry Kissinger, and it is believed that Dr. Fritz Kraemer influenced Dr. Kissinger more than any other person.

At the event, Amb. Aldona Wos, IWP President Emeritus and Trustee, encouraged IWP students and faculty to use the new collection as a resource in their academic work. She noted, “The world is constantly changing, but some things stay the same – and this is why it is so vital that we learn from history.”

Library Director Dmitry Kulik also spoke at the event, thanking Sven Kraemer for this incredible gift to IWP.

Prof. Kraemer described the books in the collection, noting that each bookcase has a distinct theme, including the history of the Cold War, American freedom strategies, intelligence information policies, the new Left and the old Left, military strategy, and Presidents.

“IWP students are called to learn the truth,” said Prof. Kraemer. “They should learn what strategies work and what strategies do not. This Library is a small part of that effort.”
