The Institute of World Politics has received a generous $80,000 gift from an anonymous donor to boost IWP’s Public Relations Program, which has elevated IWP’s voice in the national conversation on foreign policy and national security.

This gift will fund the program for six months, and the donor has laid down a challenge to other IWP supporters to match the amount and have the program fully funded for an entire year.

Past Public Relations Successes

IWP faculty are not only scholars – they are practitioners of statecraft. Many have served in senior roles across the foreign policy and national security community and bring firsthand experience to today’s most pressing strategic debates.

Through our most recent PR campaign, IWP faculty have done interviews and written articles about the Iran war and other pressing topics for outlets like Fox News and Newsmax. Our scholar-practitioners have also written for outlets like Geopolitical Monitor, National Security Journal, National Review, The New York Post, The American Spectator, The Hill, U.S. News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Times. They have appeared on radio programs nationwide, as well as on television outlets like Fox News, News Nation, NEWSMAX, Al Jazeera, and C-SPAN.

Faculty have addressed critical issues such as U.S. policy toward Iran, State Department reform, American strategy in the Western Hemisphere, and countering the Chinese Communist Party. In doing so, they have advanced IWP’s defining strategic concept of “Winning Without War” – the integrated application of all the instruments of national power, a topic our students study in depth as they master the arts of statecraft.

Expanding IWP’s Reach

The PR program has not only amplified IWP’s ideas – it has directly influenced enrollment and engagement.

Prospective students have discovered IWP after reading faculty publications. A few examples include alumni Dr. Matthew O’Brien, who first learned about IWP through an article by Dr. Marek Chodakiewicz, and Carson Checketts, who found IWP through a faculty member’s article about the war of ideas, as well as current student Caleb Fowler, who found IWP through a faculty member’s letter to the editor in The Wall Street Journal.

On campus, IWP hosted high-profile events in partnership with media outlets such as National Review and NOTUS. Several media outlets attended the fireside chats during which Congressmen John Moolenaar and Michael McCaul discussed national security challenges with Dr. John Lenczowski and Dr. James Robbins, respectively.

A Strategic Opportunity

“We are excited to build upon last year’s PR successes and further increase IWP’s visibility and brand recognition,” said Christine Balling, IWP Senior Vice President for Professional Affiliations.

Dr. James Robbins, IWP Dean of Academics, added: “IWP’s faculty brings deep, real-world experience to today’s national security challenges. Most of us have served in the foreign policy establishment and know firsthand what works – and what doesn’t.”
