The National Iranian Congress recently presented Dr. John Lenczowski, Founder, President Emeritus, and Chancellor of IWP, with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Support of Democracy and Freedom for Iran.
The award was given at an event on Capitol Hill on March 3rd titled “Iran: Next Step Toward the 7th Constitutional Assembly.” This conference focused on the legal, political, and institutional foundations necessary for a peaceful and constitutional transition in Iran. Speakers included Congressman Dr. Brian Babin and Amir Fakhravar, a former Fellow at IWP who currently serves as Senate Chairman for the National Iranian Congress.
Mr. Fakhravar said the following:
“Sixteen years ago, Dr. Lenczowski’s leadership made it possible for us to launch a program at The Institute of World Politics dedicated to developing a realistic roadmap for Iran’s democratic future. At his opening remarks during the First Democratic Transition Conference at George Washington University, he spoke movingly of his family’s connection to Iran—recalling how his parents met in Tehran during World War II.
“Dr. Lenczowski’s early support—both institutionally and personally—helped lay the groundwork for what has now evolved into a serious constitutional movement.
“Following the Seventh Iran Democratic Transition Conference—through which we advanced the institutional design of the National Iranian Congress and drafted a proposed constitution for a future democratic Iran—we now stand at the final phase of our constitutional movement: the creation of the Seventh Constitutional Assembly of Iran.”
Dr. Lenczowski said, “The goal of a free Iran based on the rule of law is a great cause. I am honored to receive this award.”
