On May 14, IWP was pleased to welcome two groups of students from the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) as part of the annual USAWC National Security Staff Ride. Each group attended seminars on national security and international affairs delivered by IWP faculty and a doctoral graduate.

One group visited in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. The morning group participated in presentations led by IWP faculty, including President Chris Glass, USN (Ret.), who opened the program and welcomed IWP faculty. Dr. James S. Robbins, Dean of Academics, addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Professor Glenn Corn presented on the war in Ukraine, and Professor Christine Balling, Senior Vice President of Professional Affiliations, spoke on developments in Latin America.

The afternoon session began with Dr. James S. Robbins again, addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Dr. Todd Boone presented on Chinese grand strategy for global economic power (by integrating commercial shipping, owning or managing coastal ports worldwide, and extraction of inland resources on every continent except North America).

The USAWC has incorporated a visit to IWP into its National Security Staff Ride itinerary since 2018, making it a recurring component of the program’s engagement with academic and policy institutions in Washington, D.C. The Staff Ride is a critical part of the USAWC curriculum, which prepares executive-level military, civilian, and international officers for strategic leadership roles across the U.S. government and allied institutions.

The Institute of World Politics is honored to continue its longstanding relationship with the USAWC and to contribute to the education of its students.
