IWP is pleased to announce that Dr. Timothy McCranor has been promoted to Dean of Academics at IWP.

“Dr. McCranor is a natural fit to be our new Dean of Academics,” said IWP President Chris Glass. “For several years, he has been doing much of the administrative work for IWP academics, including being instrumental in organizing several new master’s degree programs at IWP. We are delighted that he has accepted the role of Dean, and we look forward to his continued work to advance the IWP mission.”

In his capacity as the Dean of Academics, Dr. McCranor will help to maintain the Institute’s academic and curriculum integrity; develop and expand academic programs and faculty; support enrollment efforts and student success and satisfaction; and deepen IWP’s relationship with the growing revival in civic education throughout the country.

“I am deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as Dean of Academics at IWP,” said Dr. McCranor. “Having studied, worked, and taught at IWP, I care deeply about the Institute’s mission, and I am excited to continue collaborating with my wonderful, hard-working colleagues in support of IWP’s continued growth, commitment to excellence, and contribution to the country’s revival in civic education.”

Dr. McCranor previously served as the Assistant Dean of Academics since 2024, prior to which he served as IWP’s Academic Programs Manager for several years.

In his role as Assistant Dean, McCranor worked in close collaboration with his colleagues across multiple departments at IWP, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Advancement, and Recruitment. Together, they launched IWP’s Ph.D. program; appointed a Ph.D. Program Director; created new Master’s Degrees in War Studies, Counterintelligence, and Chinese and Asian Affairs; managed IWP’s growing DSNS program; recruited new faculty, such as Ambassador David Hale and Paul Kepp; and secured grants from the Scaife Foundation, the Bradley Foundation, and the Jack Miller Center. They also developed a new concentration in International Economics; directed two undergraduate programs, the American Statecraft Fellowship and Civic Thought and Statecraft Fellowship; and restructured IWP’s certificate and concentration offerings; and oversaw the growth and expansion of the online programs.

Dr. McCranor also teaches several courses at IWP, including History of American Foreign Policy, Ideas and Values in International Politics, Western Moral and Political Thought, and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He teaches IWP interns as well, through an intensive Civic Thought and Statecraft seminar sponsored by the Jack Miller Center.

Thanks to nominations from IWP students, Dr. McCranor received the Outstanding Service to IWP and Our Students Award from IWP in 2024. Read his full bio here.

Dr. James Robbins, who formerly served as Dean, will take on a new leadership role as Senior Vice President for Research and Business Development.
