The Institute of World Politics is pleased to announce that Sebastian Smeureanu has been appointed Assistant Dean of Online Programs.
In this role, he will oversee the development and expansion of IWP’s online programs and course offerings, working closely with the Dean of Academics and IWP faculty to strengthen online course quality, support innovative teaching practices, enrich student engagement, and ensure that IWP’s digital learning environment remains rigorous and aligned with its mission.
“IWP is incredibly fortunate, and I am personally very excited that Sebastian has decided to return to the Institute as our new Assistant Dean of Online Programs,” said IWP’s Dean of Academics, Dr. Timothy McCranor. “The growth of IWP’s online programs over the past several years has created the need for dedicated leadership focused on the unique challenges and opportunities of the online learning environment. Sebastian’s extensive experience in teaching and operational leadership, together with his deep commitment to IWP’s mission, make him exceptionally well-suited for this role.”
Sebastian brings a rare blend of academic leadership and operational execution to the position. During his prior tenure at IWP, he designed and managed the online course production pipeline and led course-media development from concept through platform integration.
In addition to his work at IWP, Sebastian has extensive business and operations experience in education. Over the past two decades, he has helped build and run an education organization as Associate Director at Academic Resources, Inc., an education-services firm providing tutoring, academic coaching, and standardized test preparation from middle school through graduate admissions, where he taught and trained staff, led workflow redesign, managed daily operations, and supported growth initiatives that doubled revenue over seven years. He has also supported business turnarounds as an operations consultant, focusing on staffing structures, operational platforms and security, workflow design, and marketing execution.
Sebastian’s teaching background includes six years at Pace University (two as an adjunct and four full-time), along with additional higher-education teaching experience across multiple institutions. In parallel, he serves as the Creative & Executive Director of Dacian Wolf Productions, where he develops and produces narrative and educational projects.
About his return, Sebastian said, “I am excited to reconnect and newly connect with the wonderful people who make up the faculty and the staff of IWP, and I am eager to help grow IWP’s online programs into the standard for statecraft and national security graduate online education.”
