IWP student participates in Young Leaders Conference in Switzerland

Below is a report from IWP student Amanda Williams about a recent educational experience in Switzerland.

Recently I returned from a trip to Zurich, Switzerland. There were representatives from the United States and Switzerland in a Young Leaders Conference put on by the American Swiss Foundation. This conference was an opportunity to learn more about the relationship between these “sister Republics,” the culture of the Swiss, and the financial development of each nation individually and together.

Not only did I learn a great deal about Switzerland as a country and as a strong U.S. ally, but I learned a lot about the people as well. During this trip I met so many amazing and inspiring Swiss and American colleagues that I am now proud to call friends. Each of us learned a great deal in our lectures and group sessions, but we also learned so much just talking with one another-discussing ideas and values each evening. I am very lucky to have met such wonderful people.

I am very sad the trip went by so quickly but very grateful to have been able to participate in such a wonderful program. I have The Institute of World Politics, the people at American Swiss Foundation, and Ambassador Faith Whittlesey to thank for this experience. I had a phenomenal time and have many new memories that I will hold dear for years to come. I look forward to the reunions we have in store for us, and seeing the beautiful mountains of Switzerland again.
