Former IWP student Katherine Caruso has been involved in public relations, licensing, and distribution for a film entitled American Exploitation: The Slaves Among Us, which premiered on November 11 as a part of the Alexandria Film Festival at the Hoffman Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
American Exploitation is a documentary which delves into the minds and hearts of sex trafficking survivors as they share their stories. It focuses on the complex, subversive nature of trafficking and the efforts of social advocates, law enforcement agencies, state legislators, and victims-turned-heroes to eradicate the volatile system from the idyllic area of southwest Florida and create lasting change in the world. In addition to American Exploitation, Katherine has played Skylar in The Daily Bread, which was filmed in Virginia and appears on DIRECTV’s channel 379 Upliftv on Sunday nights at 8:00 PM (interview on set here), and she has appeared in the new movie How to Get Girls on Hulu. Katherine also played a supporting role on REELZ CopyCat Killers, Wolverine episode. She was very proudly part of the anti-smoking campaign by Truth Orange, and she was in several of their commercials. Her latest film on the DC 48 Hour film festival won several awards. She began intensive practice of martial arts (Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, etc.), and she now does her own stunts.
Prior to working in film and television, Katherine worked at the Department of State. She has also worked on the Hill and in real estate in the Washington, D.C. area.
She is currently producing three features and one pilot, and she is working on an audiobook for the novel Covert Awakening by Julianne Hale.
