IWP alumna Patricia Schouker (’17) recently contributed to a report by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance. The report, titled “Designating Space Systems as new U.S. Critical Infrastructure Sector” calls for the designation of U.S. space systems as critical infrastructure.
The report highlights the reliance of the intelligence community and greater U.S. government on space-based technologies such as satellites. The report argues that by making space systems critical infrastructure, greater public-private cooperation will be able to improve the protection and advancement of American space capabilities. Among its arguments, the report also highlights that space systems as critical infrastructure would assist in competition with China and other adversaries, make the U.S. the forefront for establishing international norms, and assist in identifying threats to space assets.
